DAVID UESSEM
Biography

David Uessem was born in 1981 in Engelskirchen, Germany. He studied illustration at the IBKK in Bochum, where he refined his eye for precision and detail. Quickly drawn to a freer form of expression, he turned to painting and specialized in fine arts under the direction of Professor Qi Yang.
His works combine hyperrealism and surrealism, creating a tension between illusion and reality. The mask, a recurring element in his work, takes the form of crowns or pop motifs, questioning identity and self-perception. He explores this theme through innovative materials such as mirrored glass, precious stones and metallic leaves. Through his creations, the artist invites us to reflect on the mask we all wear, to protect ourselves from others and sometimes to protect others from ourselves. Although his models do not look at the viewer, their presence is striking, offering the artist’s point of view. The interplay between visibility and concealment, between surface and depth, invites a fascinating perceptual exploration.
Thanks to oil and acrylic glaze techniques that he has refined himself, he manages to obtain precise shades of color, shaping each image with remarkable finesse. The canvas, as a boundary between the work and the viewer, is enriched by the use of a palette knife and a deliberate blurring of certain details.
