BENJAMIN SHINE
Biography
Benjamin Shine is a British artist, designer and inventor. He studied fashion design at the Surrey Institute of Art and Design and then at Central St Martins in London before opening his own design studio. The winner of numerous awards, he has worked with Givenchy, Maison Margiela, Bergdorf Goodman, Beyonce, Vogue and Coca-Cola.
A master in the use of tulle, the artist’s work is poetic and ethereal, using fabric as a means of expression. In his ‘Slow Motion’ series, three-dimensional human faces are drawn in a single length of fabric. Using an iron, the material is glued to a canvas, fixing each fold of the fabric that serves to define the image.
Benjamin Shine’s art revolves around notions of impermanence and the link between the spiritual and the superficial. His closed-eyed faces seem to draw us into their world of solitude…
