GER DOORNINK

Biography

GER DOORNINK

Born in 1949, Ger Doornink is a Dutch conceptual artist specialising in painting, illustration and photography. He studied advertising at the Arnhem Academy of Arts. He began his career as a designer and photographer in the world of advertising and fashion. There he built up a solid reputation, using the pseudonym “Gerry the Cat”. In the early 1980s, he moved to Tokyo, where he was influenced by “Japanese style”, which he began to incorporate into his designs. He then moved to Milan, and on his return to the Netherlands studied the old Dutch masters.

Versatile artist, Ger Doornink combines all the aspects that have influenced him throughout his career, adding his own sense of aesthetics. He is constantly in search of beauty, perfecting his technique while exploring its limits. He works by superimposing layers of water, oil and resin, seeking to push back the boundaries of his art.

His creations explore human expression, blending Western boldness with Eastern aesthetics. His portraits reveal individual stories, capturing the essence of each of his models. With an almost magical dimension, the artist conveys authentic emotions through his artworks, which are imbued with modernity, sensitivity, delicacy and, at the same time, power. His canvases are bathed in eternity, resulting in a memory of the future, cut from the sky in grey, sepia or black and white with bold colour accents.
