Biography

MÓNICA FERNÁNDEZ

Mónica Fernández, born on May 22, 1978 in Torreón Coahuila, Mexico, developed a self-taught passion for art from an early age. In 1999, she pursued formal studies at the Lorenzo de Medici Academy in Florence, Italy, where she explored various artistic techniques such as oil painting, Indian ink, mixed media, nude drawing and watercolor. On her return to Mexico, Mónica Fernández enriched her knowledge of the fine arts at the Instituto. Allende de Bellas Artes, in San Miguel de Allende. There, she perfected a wide range of creative techniques, including sculpture, engraving, batik and oil painting, consolidating her technical mastery and artistic sensibility.

Mónica Fernández deposits fragments of her soul in every brushstroke. Her works are characterized by captivating portraits of women, combining realistic and surreal elements. Using oils, acrylics and mixed media on wood and canvas, she creates richly detailed compositions that explore profound themes such as beauty, fragility and the intrinsic strength of the human being.

Each woman she paints is an allegory of herself, an embodiment of the multiple roles she plays throughout her life. Each work becomes a quest: that of a woman struggling to remain true to herself, while navigating between imposed responsibilities and her vital need for independence. These feminine portraits, both deeply personal and universal, embody poignant introspection and a celebration of resilience.
