PAOLO MEDICI
Biography

Paolo Medici was born in Rome in 1955. Between 1969 and 1976, he became a student of Grand Master Corrado Cagli, with whom he perfected his painting technique. A great experimenter, Cagli introduced him to frottage, a technique that would profoundly influence his work and become his signature.
Defining himself as an “emotional realist”, Paolo Medici seeks to capture the essence of emotions through a resolutely realistic pictorial language. His view of the world around him is the starting point for a broader reflection on man and his condition. His approach is based on a subtle balance between technical mastery and measured expression of feelings, placing his work in a contemporary quest for beauty and harmony. Through his paintings, he aspires to absolute clarity, abolishing all barriers between the artist and his idea, and between the idea and the observer.
For nearly 50 years, Paolo Medici has tirelessly explored the frottage technique, superimposing up to five different media to compose his works. By varying textures, transparencies and successive passages of pastel, he refines his rendering, creating vibrant nuances and a striking chromatic richness. His meticulous approach allows him to reproduce complexions with great accuracy and to explore the play of chiaroscuro with unprecedented depth. This mastery allows him to achieve a level of detail and density that rivals oil painting, giving his creations a unique intensity.
