PHILIPPE SHANGTI

Biography

PHILIPPE SHANGTI

Born in Toulouse in 1983, Philippe Shangti picked up his first camera at the age of 5. Self-taught, he moved to Saint-Tropez at the age of 20. He was initially hired to create restaurant concepts, such as the prestigious Le Quai and, a few years later, L’Opéra Saint-Tropez. Discovering the sins of the jet-set, he decided to use his camera not to capture a slice of life, but to get his message across.

Through his photographs, Philippe Shangti denounces the vices of our society and points the finger at human behaviour to raise awareness. With an aesthetic that is pushed to the limit in each of his works, the artist deals with subjects such as pollution, drugs, the status of women, prostitution and the animal condition.

Without ever crossing the boundaries of moralising sermons or vulgarity, Philippe Shangti denounces the immoral by embellishing it, and effectively inscribes his battles in the public mind with benevolence and depth.
