On New Year’s Eve, the street artist staged the star of the holiday season throwing presents into a garbage can in Châtelet-Les Halles, a busy temple of Parisian commerce. Far from being a fairy tale, James Colimina has placed Santa’s hands in a garbage can.
If the natural vocation of presents is to end up at the foot of the tree, these packages carry another dimension: the symbol of a difference between rich and poor, perishable products with a sad carbon footprint.
The message is incisive: Christmas is the reign of inequality and ecological waste.
